SAARA
The centro market in Rio

6 HOUR TOUR:

To look like a local, head to the streets of SAARA and look hot without spending a fortune and your travel budget.
With over six hundred stores, Covering eleven blocks of downtown Rio, SAARA sells everything from toys, clothing, footwear, costume jewellery, accessories,  party goods, Carnival costumes, electronics, home decoration and appliances – all for very reasonable prices.
There is also a store dedicated to the ultimate Brazilian footwear - the simple Havaiana flip flop, and style-conscious visitors would be well advised to buy a few pairs to take back home.
Browse the shops and explore the large indoor market at Uruguaiana. The principle shopping arteries are Rua da Alfandega, Rua Uruguaina and Rua Buenos Aires Downtown is also about luxury shopping, and more upscale goods and clothes are on sale in the stores around Rua Gonçalves Dias.
In the area is a must a stop to a coffee and snack at Cafeteria Colombo (Colombo Coffee Shop), one of our most precious gems.

TO 6 HOURS TOUR:
The spot for shopping is in the Saara in downtown, at least during week days.
It may lack the allure of the beaches, but there's plenty here to merit a visit.
Is definitely a must, as long being there, a slice of history, head to the grand Confeitaria Colombo, where you can soak up the belle epoque opulance.
Some of the city's oldest buildings are found here, too - look out for elegant neo-classical and handsome colonial ones among the office tower blocks that now dominate the skyline.
If 1st Saturday of the month, enjoy the Feira Antiga do Lavradio or any Saturday go to Feira de São Cristóvão.
PS.:
Centro is best avoided on Sundays, when it is dangerously deserted.
